Sales and VP of Sales (Naylor Pipe 1996-2000)
● As Vice President of Sales, we realized an increase in annual sales of 105% over a span of 6 years in a mature
industry. Naylor was founded in 1925. The last ten years continued to be banner years for profit.
● Motivated sales employees to perform through training, goal-setting, and performance recognition.
● Designed our current catalog, and numerous marketing materials used in publications. Proposed advertising
budgets, and only cost-effective target publications or trade shows.
● Maintained public relations with local government and industry associations. Attended various dinners and
events. Presented technical seminars to large groups of engineers, including the Illinois D.O.T.
● Successfully negotiated multi-year contracts with companies that have Six-Sigma and ISO 9000 manufacturing
procedures (domestic and international).

spreadsheets were submitted as often as required by contract terms or as requested by the customer.

shipment consolidation, revising purchase quantities or frequency to implement price-breaks.

VP Manufacturing (Naylor Pipe 2005-2014)
● Supervised over 80 employees working in the office and plant (labor) of an 87 year old steel pipe manufacturing facility
(130,000+ sq. ft. Union Shop). Included: Production, Fabrication, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, Testing & Quality
Control, Shipping & Receiving, Purchasing, Inventory Management, Payroll, Sales, and Marketing.
● Motivated foremen and shop employees to buy-in to the company missions and current production goals. Met with
foremen a few times daily and more as needed to discuss daily objectives, questions, and concerns. Conducted
regular meetings regarding policy changes, procedure changes, manufacturing improvements, etc. Reviewed daily and
monthly reports from all departments. Identified and eliminated bottlenecks, quality concerns, and other issues that
reduced productivity. Designed and implemented new procedures. Analyzed and improved product-flow, set-up daily
manning positions, and scheduled incoming materials to keep output at the best possible rates of efficiency.
● Continuous improvement leader. Designed product improvements, equipment improvements, process flow
improvements, and even new products.
● Achieved above average production volume while decreasing the plant (labor) staff from 80 employees to 48
employees over the last 5 years through effective scheduling and cross-training.
● Set-up safety rules that complied with and in many cases surpassed OSHA requirements. Conducted monthly plant
safety inspections. Reviewed and recorded weekly safety meetings and recorded attendance. Wrote and scheduled
safety hazard repair orders. Maintained records for the safety program. Performed yearly OSHA-type audit of the entire
safety program. Revised safety manual to current OSHA standards--Lock-out tag-out, PPE, hazard communications,
arc protection, EPA compliance, recycling, ergonomics, injury reduction, and more.
● Implemented computerized sales and production monitoring, as well as better quality control procedures. Including ISO
9000 and Six-Sigma—type document control. Many of our customers used various forms of QA/QC procedures. We
could not limit ourselves to one type, but rather adhered to all of them.
● Strategically purchased raw materials in bulk and released as required to take advantage of potential price spikes.
Reviewed and approved requisitions from eight department foremen. Supervised purchasing to be sure our raw
material, parts, and equipment needs were met, prices were in-line, and the items requested were correct for their
intended purpose.
● Issued verbal and written warnings for policy, safety, and attendance violations. Also issued 3-day, 5-day suspensions,
and termination for the same.
● Reviewed daily and monthly reports from all departments. Identified and eliminated bottlenecks, quality concerns, and
issues that hindered productivity. Designed and implemented procedures, product-flow, manning, raw material, or
equipment changes to keep output at the best possible rates.

Human Resources Experience (Naylor Pipe 2000-2014)
● Actively recruited new employees through job postings internally, on the internet, employment services, job
fairs, working with the chamber of commerce, colleges and universities, and other government agencies. This
included labor and management positions.
● Reviewed resumes, conducted interviews, created, evaluated qualifying tests, checked references, and
created applicant summaries (top potential applicants for each open position).
● Sent employees for pre-employment, post-accident, and return-to-work medical screenings. Advised the
insurance company to investigate possible work-injury fraud cases. Reviewed test results from the clinic in
each case listed. Created light-duty or job transfers when possible.
● Created and implemented orientation checklists for the office and shop. Oversaw the orientation of new
employees as well as provided training on work rules and policies. This included safety (verbal, hands-on, and
videos), attendance, vacation and holidays, work rules, FMLA, harassment, Non-Discrimination, 401(k), drug
use, procedures, severe weather, evacuation, fire, use of equipment, chain of command, and steps of
progression for advancement. Issued and reviewed W4 forms, Department of Homeland Security forms, and
various sign-off forms, before submitting to payroll.
● Issued shop management 30 and 60 day reviews in reference to probationary shop employees. Reviewed
data on the reviews supplementing them with attendance information to make decisions on whether to retain,
terminate, or extend the probationary period.
● Reviewed and responded to grievances. Responded to and acted on employee requests regarding safety,
policy explanations or inconsistencies, and equipment requisitions. Investigated, reviewed, and mediated
harassment and discrimination claims.
● Posted holiday schedule notices, changes to work hours or overtime, general notices (drive safely, due date
for 401k changes, job openings, etc.).
● Approved or denied vacation requests based on company policies and the ability to keep the company
functioning to meet customer needs. Approved or denied notes to cover sick days used as per attendance
policy. Supervised the HR department: reviewed employee attendance cards weekly, signed paycheques,
signed wage garnishment checks, and approved payroll deposit checks for the office and the shop. Also
approved and signed 401k transfers, credit union transfers, 401k loan payments, dividend checks, and checks
to vendors in amounts up to and over $500,000. I was a trustee on all bank accounts.
