|Beach Safety Instructor||RNLI||From May 2011 To Current|
|This job requires giving beach safety talks to children in primary school and then taking them into the sea to learn rescue techniques using tubes and nipper boards to help improve water confidence. In this role I work as part of a close knit team and require great observational skills and a good knowledge of changing sea conditions as well as being friendly and approachable.|
|Beach Lifeguard||RNLI||From May 2013 To September 2013|
|My first year in this position I was thrown in severely at the deep end working Newquay’s Fistral beach; the highest profile surf beach and one of the busiest in the UK during filming by the BBC for a new documentary on its lifeguards. It was vital that I learnt fast and implemented my training efficiently to every new situation as it occurred This included water based rescues, administering first aid, beach safety announcements, giving face to face safety advice to the public, looking after lost children, dealing with missing person searches and using beach equipment safely (quad bikes and 4x4 trucks) to name a few all the time keeping an eye on the water and changing sea conditions. It was also important to have excellent communication and teamwork skills especially under pressure as at times it was necessary to coordinate lifeguards, the coast guard and emergency services in order to deal with potentially life threatening situations as well as maintaining day to day safety on the beach.|
|Surf Instructor||The Surf Club Cornwall||From May 2013 To October 2013|
|I was required to give private one to one or family surf lessons to guests at a luxury hotel. This was great as it allowed me to teach everyone individually really helping them progress quickly from one lesson to the next which was extremely satisfying for clients and rewarding for me and usually resulted in me making some friends along the way.|
|Head Instructor||Groundswell||From May 2012 To November 2012|
|Here I was the head instructor of a girls surf evening which ran every Friday and is subsidised by Newquay council allowing locals who have always wanted to try surfing to give it a go in a safe and friendly atmosphere. This was a really rewarding job as the same girls would come back every week and so it was possible to see them progress and really get sucked into the whole surf culture. It was awesome when I went back to Newquay the following summer that most of them had stuck with it and we could surf together.|
|Surf Instructor||Watergate Bay Hotel||From June 2012 To December 2012|
|This job involved running 2 or 3 lessons a day usually to groups of 8 children between the ages of 8 and 14 requiring a friendly, fun and relaxed lesson style to keep the kids engaged for a 2 and a half hour lesson without getting cold in the UK with a strong message about safety when in the sea. Alongside that I also helped with the day to day running of the surf school taking bookings, helping plan lesson timetables and maintaining the equipment and cleanliness of the facilities.|
|Surf Instructor||Errant Surf School||From April 2012 To December 2012|
|Unlike the extreme academy Errant in general had an older clientele base most of which just want to have fun and a bit of a mess around so lessons were adapted to be shorter on the beach with more time teaching and giving demonstrations in the water as well as having a bit of friendly banter.|
|Qualification||Field of Study||Institution||When?|
|Bachelor of Science Degree||Marine Biology||University of Plymouth||From 2008 To 2011|
