Summary of Experience

I have worked as an ASI qualified surf instructor for two years, previous to that I have volunteered teaching surf life saving skills for 4 years. I have been lucky enough to travel with my qualification and enjoyed enriching my teaching skills by working for well respected companies, each with an individual approach to surf coaching.

Surf Instructor	Up Surf Coaching	From November 2015 To February 2016
I run the "Become a Surfer" course for Up Surf Coaching. I set the time and location depending on the conditions that are forecast and arrive at the beach early to assess the prime location on the beach for my lesson which varies as the pupils progress. I start with a strong foundation progressing to turning in the white water and eventually, depending on the students confidence and ability and the conditions on the day, to surfing green waves out back. The three session course includes theory such as choosing appropriate conditions for beginner surfers, technique for getting out back, different types of surf breaks and surf etiquette. For this I use a mixture of pre-prepared media, diagrams and my own experience. My aim for the course is that my student feels confident and equipped to pursue surfing further themselves.
